Stephen E. Ambrose, D-Day, June 6, 1944: The Climactic Battle of World War II
For all of our ancestors that fought or participated in other duties in World War II, this book provides insight into the culmination of the war – D-Day, fought on June 6, 1944. I’m sure many of you know Stephen Ambrose as a prolific historical author, and this book doesn’t disappoint. He covers the planning, training and execution of the Allies invasion into Normandy through more than 1,400 veterans’ interviews. The numerous photos and maps help to bring to life the pain, agony, bravery and finally success of the young soldiers from the U.S. and Britain, storming the Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword beaches, as well as the airborne division dropping in behind enemy lines. This book covers a lot of military strategy, but also brings to life the stories of the soldiers.
