The Budnick Brick Wall - Part 2
A multipart series: analyzing DNA and finding a possible sibling for Albert!
Reminder of the background: This series is about my Great Great Grandfather Albert Wilhelm Budnick– he is from a little town in Poland that used to be called Poblotz that I visited in November 2021. I have yet to find Albert’s parents’ names. He immigrated to the US in 1863 as a 22 year old man. No documents that exist in the US records have either of his parents’ names.
Where we left off in Part
1: 23 people traveled with Albert
Wilhelm Budnick from Poblotz to Pennsylvania, none of whom were his parents.
Part 2 of this series is
focusing on the DNA research done that resulted in finding a potential sibling
of Albert. Due to the fact that many of the people whose
DNA matched mine are still living, I’m not using their real names in this post.
In May 2020, a woman who I
will name “Anne” reached out to me via the messaging service in Ancestry,
asking about our DNA match and surmising that we were related through Albert
Budnick. Anne is a New York transplant
currently living in New Zealand. She had
done some research in advance of reaching out to me, looking at my public tree
and comparing to hers, in order to guess about where we were connected.
Anne and I’s DNA match is
24cM (centimorgans) – which indicates a 4th to 6th cousin
relationship. By the time she and I
talked, she had already reached out to many of her higher cM matches, and had
already constructed a picture of her ancestor line. Anne told me she was descended from Charlotte
Burbott (remember her name from Budnick Brick Wall Part 1’s passenger
list?). Anne is one of 6 DNA matches
that she connected to Charlotte, through two different children of
Charlotte’s. She gave me the names of all
the people she had connected to, and their relationships to her, so that I
could (1) see if these others also matched me, and (2) create my own tree of
DNA matches for this family. Below is
the picture of that tree, showing in RED the cM match between me and each of the
people in Charlotte’s tree.
Part 3 of this series will
pick back up with the Burbott line, and focus further on Charlotte and
Friedrich’s information.
